Our Caveman red is our everyday red wine. The wine is treated exactly like all of our other reds but the blend changes every year both in varietals and percentages of those varietals. It is always a fun wine to put together. It is made in an easy drinking style that is ready to enjoy right away upon release but will also hold for a number of years.
Aroma: Since this wine has a little bit of almost all of the reds that we grow on the property it is a bit of an aroma chameleon. It is ever evolving in aromatic character but it is always filled with dark red fruit aromas and bits of earthiness in the form of worn leather aromas. I just love the interesting character that this wine delivers.
Taste: The palate of this wine is easy drinking but offers good structure at the same time. Dried figs and dried Bing cherries come off on the initial attack of the palate. Those dark fruit flavors transition into earthy tones of English Breakfast tea and a hint of leather with a medium long finish the wine persists on the palate nicely.
Food Pairing:I like a nice grilled burger with this wine. If you are vegetarian substitute beef for a nice portabella mushroom marinated in minced rosemary, parsley, garlic and olive oil. Alternately the 2016 Caveman red will pair well with hearty tomato based pastas.
