Mas Des Volques Esus – Rhone Red
It is in 2010 that the Mas des Volques is born. The family vineyard where 4 generations of vine growers was previously destined for a cooperative cellar, Nicolas Souchon decides with the help and advice of Philippe Cambie, a renowned oenologist from the Rhône, to create the Mas des Volques with the oldest and the most beautiful parcels of this vineyard. The estate takes its name from the remains of a small village in Gaul, Les Volques Arécomiques, discovered in the middle of the vines.
Surrounded by clay-limestone slopes on Valanginian marls strongly altered at the origin of numerous small limestone fragments present in all layers of the soil. Even if the floors are very shallow, the roots over time infiltrate through the cracks of the rock for draw on everything they need, including water that is scarce in summer. The warm days contrast with the freshness of the typical nights of the Cevennes piedmont creating wines whose finesse and freshness are characteristic.
