Once a Cistercian abbey, the Mönchhof estate is one of the oldest in the Mosel. Following secularization, it was purchased in 1804 by the Eymael family, who own it to this day. The estate holdings are predominantly in the Ürziger Würzgarten with small slices of the spectacular Treppchen and Prälat vineyards in Erden. The estate Riesling hails mostly from the red Devonian slate of the Würzgarten, and the wine is in the decidedly sweet style. It’s a perfect foil for adventurous home chefs who like to dabble in spicy and exotic southeast Asian cuisine.
